Le Moss was a special horse in the world of racing and he has become a bit of a legend to those of us who own his offspring.

Le Moss is the middle of three full siblings, unusual in racing, from the Le Levenstall (Le Levendou x Stella's Sister) and Feemoss (Ballymoss x Feevagh). All bred in Ireland by the McGrath family.
Levmoss was born in 1967 a bay colt the first for Feemoss at the stud. He won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1969 beating several top horses in a spectacular finish especially since he was a 52-1 shot on the day. After 8 wins from 11 starts including the Ascot Gold Cup, Levmoss was retired to stud aged five in Ireland. In 1977 he was sent to France to stand there but died later that year. He is imortalised in a Dublin housing development called The Gallops.
Sweet Mimosa was born in 1969 a chestnut filly. Sweet Mimosa was another good racehorse winning the Prix de Diane (often considered the French Oaks) in 1970 the first foreign trained horse to do so. She is very influential in many modern pedigrees through her daughters, particularly Sweet Habit and Fleur Royale. Out of 9 foals, 5 were winners and she was partnered to Mill Reef and Habitat.
Le Moss was and still is the only horse to win the stayers triple crown two years running. A stunning chestnut with a huge personality. After an injury he refused to leave the yard with anyone but the head lad and once on the gallops he refused to move. The only way to keep him fit was swimming, a training method that saw him win his second Ascot Gold Cup. He was put to sleep on the 17th August 2000 due to the infirmaties of old age and buried at Waterhouse Farm where he was standing at stud, he was 25.
So far I have discovered that the defining factor of the LeMoss offspring is the huge intelligence combined with a stubborn streak a mile wide, making them the most difficult and rewarding horses to work with. For example my own mare prefers to load into a horsebox or trailer with a friend and Dessert Moss will only load when his mum isn't looking.
