Here are some examples of thoroughbreds and ex-racers successfully competing in a variety of disaplines, just to prove if you are a quiet confident rider anything is acheiveable!
Pembridge Place - Niniski ex.Rose Damour(Lines of Power)
Snoopy as he is known was purchased by Dot as 6yr old with detached suspensory tendons. Turned out for a year and gradually bought back into work. Never really caught on to the idea of listening to the rider when there were more interesting things happening somewhere else!! Hence best ever showjumping was 11 faults. Turned to Endurance riding and competed in rides up to 50miles successfully. Raced once more in 2001 in the Newmarket town plate, a 3&3/4 mile amateur flat race. He came third, was the only horse not trained in a racing yard and the first owner rider combination home. Sadly in 2003 while doing a 40 mile ride an incident in a ploughed field resulted in snoopy's suspensories being damaged again. It was decided that it would be best to get him sound and retire him.since, he was only suitable for hacking. He was retired to the blood bank in Scotland.
Barry's Double and Amy
Barry's Double - Barry's Gamble ex.Pennine Star (Pennine Walk)
Amy was bought Baz when he was 5 and she was 10, straight out of training by her experienced Mum. The trainer described him as "special needs" as he had started to get difficult on the gallops and was uninterested in racing. At some time life had been hard for Baz, he used to have panic attacks over simple things but luckerly he bonded with Amy straight away. After a year off, Amy started to reschool him and they are now enjoying hacking about and having fun!!
Baz is only 15.1 and raced fairly successfully over three years. His grey gene comes direct from Alcocks Arabian, the Brownlow Turk, Fairfax Morocco Barb via The Techrarch all through a stallion called Crab who was foaled in 1722.
Golden Knight and Kym |
|
|
Golden Knight, aka Red Ninja or Fred to his friends is owned by Kym. Fred was incureably uninterested in racing and did his very best to loose. A typical steeplechaser shape, with croup high and low set tail, he is making efforts in dressage, competing unaffliated Novice. A real character who has broken Kym's leg during a dressage test, allegadly the safest equestrian disapline! Kym and Fred are now starting to compete in prelim and novice dressage once again, including some affliated competitions. Fred was barefoot, which apart from stoney tracks didn't seen to bother him in the slightest. Interestingly he hadn't been lame during this time. However being the economical sort, Fred has now got shoes on, as dragging his hind feet in the sand school had worn them painfully low. |

Corina's Glow and Claire
Corina's Glow - Sizzling Melody ex.Pale Glow(Kalaglow)As you can see from the picture Corina's Glow has taken very successfully to Showjumping, representing her riding club and reaching the area finals. Claire bought Corina as a four year old from a local riding school near York. Although advertised as a TB there was no indication that she had raced, when Claire was told she had been in training she wanted her all the more!Corina hasn't been an easy horse to rehabiltate as she arrived with alot of problems which Claire wasn't aware off but as a partnership they are now jumping affiliated classes. |

Mr Tuplin - Peintre Celebre ex.Fearless Revival (Cozzene)
Whilst searching for another youngster, Michelle was offered a 5 yr old Chestnut Gelding by a local trainer. He was older that she had in mind but since her Partner insisted she took him home and tried him out. Initially Michelle wasn't very interested, but after letting her 12yr old son walk him off after excersize and baring in mind he had been off the track only 8 weeks, she realised he was too nice and his temprement was one people would pay £1000's for, so he never went back. Mr T, still only 6yrs old, babysits in the field and out hacking other newly retired racehorses. Not only does he excel at dressage but can turn his hoof to showjumping and cross country as well. Bred at Cheveley Park Stud, sold for £250,000 to Godolphin, Mr T was flown to Dubai and trained by Saeed Bin Suroor. He returned to the UK with Godolphin until he was sold to Mick Attwater, where his carreer ended with broken wind.
Gloria Imperator and Georgina

Gloria Imperator - Imperial Frontier ex.English Lily (Runnett)
Sid, named after the lead singer of the Sex Pistols, was not a hugely successful racehorse and retired from racing in 1997.
Blue Streak and Joey
Blue Streak - Bluebird ex. Fleet Amour (Afleet)
Blue has only been out of training 18months his last race being 22nd November 2005 at Southwell. Out of his 63 starts, Blue won nearly £20,000 on the flat and over hurdles. Joey actually looked after him whilst he was in racing and even pilotted him four times herself. Blue left racing after breaking his pelvis so he is a very lucky boy to survive and to be able to lead a full non-racing life afterwards. Blue is having a very succesfull year in showing, having won 12 of the 18 classes, qualifiying for Hickstead for 2007 and 2008, including the glorious title Royal London Supreme Champion Ex racehorse of Britian.
